This simple, yet elegant, placemat was handwoven with cotton thread on a backstrap loom. The placemat has large blue stripes, one is solid and one is heathered. The handstitched embroidery on the edges in complementary blues, pale pink, and cream make the placemat pop on any table. Placemat measures 18 inches across and 13 inches tall.
This beautiful placemat was woven on a backstrap loom by a group of 15 weavers called Las Flores de Peña Blanca (The Flowers of Peña Blanca). The women have been weaving for many years and formed together as a group so that they could help find markets for their products and help provide for their families.
