Year-long Sponsorship of an Elder
Provide an elder in need with access to nutritious food, medical care, and extra attention for a full year. You will receive a short biography of the elder you are supporting.
Sharing the Dream operates an Elder Center in Santiago Atitlan for more than 60 Maya elders living in extreme poverty. The majority of the elders have been widowed or lost other close family members to war, natural disaster, or illness. Their remaining family often cannot bear the financial burden of support, or worse still, actively shun and abuse the elders.
In order to keep everyone safe, we have had to temporarily close the Elder Center to visits, and the elders have remained at home. The elders rely on the food that they receive through the Elder Center, and we continue to deliver this life-saving food to them at their homes. As part of their elder sponsorship, the elders have access to medical care free of cost to them and in their own language.
