Hospital Visit for a Sick Elder
Provide life-saving medical care to a sick elder.
Sharing the Dream operates an Elder Center in Santiago Atitlan for more than 60 Maya elders living in extreme poverty. The majority of the elders have been widowed or lost other close family members to war, natural disaster, or illness. Their remaining family often cannot bear the financial burden of support, or worse still, actively shun and abuse the elders.
In order to keep everyone safe, we have had to temporarily close the Elder Center to visits, and the elders have remained at home. The loss of social interaction that the Elder Center provides has been difficult. The Elder Center staff visits each of the elders at their homes to remind them that they are not alone and that they are care about deeply.
