This fair trade item was made by UPAVIM, an organization of women artisans from one of the most dangerous parts of Guatemala City. Originally founded in 1988 as a healthy baby program, this organization has grown to include a training program to make crafts, a primary school, nursery, clinic, bakery, and soy milk and cheese production project. Now, they are one of the largest and most successful artisan groups in the country, and they make darling children’s items and home wares. The sales of their products help the artisans to support themselves and their families.
