Saturday-July 24th.
We got up early to get the bus back to Guatemala City. We had bought our tickets ahead
of time so we caught a cab and went to the bus stop. We had gotten the front rows as I thought this would be interesting
for the group. You can't see much sitting in the middle of the bus. It was warm to begin with, but it was early
enough in the morning and this bus also had air conditioning. It didn't have a bathroom though. It took us about
5 ½ hours to get back to the city. When we got back to zone 1 we walked over to the Casa Guatemala clinic. This
is where the young babies stay at the orphanage. When they can walk they go to the river. I think I had written
about this in a previous journal. I had been there before the group had come, but I wanted to show them the clinic.
We stayed just a little while and then headed back to the office.
We spent the afternoon packing and getting ready
to leave. We had to pack up crafts in the suitcases that we brought so that took us awhile. In the afternoon Miguel's
sister and her husband came to say good-bye. It was quite tearful, but they knew they would see him again. In
the evening his cousin and her family came. They all really love Miguel and it was a great couple of weeks for all of
them. We will probably see them when we go back in Dec.
The evening was spent doing all of our last minute things.
Of course we were all pretty tired by this time and ready to go home.
Sunday-July 25th.
WE got up very early.
One last time to have coffee together. Loaded up the van and SUV with all of our baggage and headed for the airport.
The airport was crowded but we made it through. When we got to Houston all of us missed our planes because of the time
connections so we sat in the airport for several hours. There was a storm moving in so Carisa, Miguel, Kyle and I even
got to sit in the plane on the runway for several hours. All the perils of travel. Anyhow, made it home safe.
Two bags didn't make it but they brought them to me the next day.
In summary..
It was a great trip. The
group was wonderful. No one was sick. They were great travelers. They were flexible and didn't complain about
anything. I would take them all again. It was wonderful to see all the people we work with in Guatemala.
Sharing the Dream is making a difference in lots of lives. The relationship is building. Thank you to all of you
who sell the crafts, volunteer and do so many things to make this successful.
Until the next time. This is Adios.
