Maya Traditions

Maya Traditions is comprised of four weaving groups situated near and around the lake of Atitlán and the town of Chichicastenango.  Jane Mintz, founder of the group, has worked hard with the women to produce designs which are authentic in the use of traditional back strap weaving techniques, designing products of high quality for the fair trade and museum markets in the US.    The women are some of the most skilled weavers in Guatemala and receive benefits through educational programs run by the project, including how to use medicinal plants, and natural dyes, as well as basic accounting skills.
