Flor del Campo Flor
del Campo is a member of Samajel Bátz,´(weaver of thread) a
conglomeration of nine groups spread throughout the highlands.
Flor del Campo is based near Comalapa, an area very hard hit by the
massacres of the war. The widows of this group have shown
determination strength and intelligence in their struggle to survive
widowhood in Guatemala since their community was virtually
destroyed. The women have managed to educate, feed and clothe
their children on the income from the sale of their weavings, and have
also managed to finish elementary school themselves, something which
was only a dream to them when they were children, and most only reached
second grade. Recently, the group was chosen out of
many in Guatemala and other countries in post
war situations by UNICEF to receive funds for the construction of a
weaving and training centre in their village. For several years the
