Colores de Guatemala

This group is comprised of five groups based in the Cobán and Quetzaltenango regions. After receiving extensive training in quality control, the women are now producing a range of crocheted and woven products of the highest quality, working cooperatively and receiving the benefits of an additional income to that of their husbands. The communities where the women live in the Cobán area are remote, with road structure in a very bad state, and rains during most of the year. Access to education for these women when they were of school age was almost impossible, and the literacy rate among the women is very low. Now they are able to send their own children to school, and pay for school materials themselves.
